Sustainability and the Bridal Industry
What is sustainability in the bridal industry? How can a market focused on only one day truly value the well-being of both people and the environment? Trust us, it’s possible.
As the first sustainability focused bridal store in Boston (and Massachusetts), one of the big reasons we opened is to shine a light on how you can intentionally shop for your wedding day by selecting a pre-loved garment or independent designers who create with their impact in mind.
With the help of the London School of Fashion’s Fashion and Sustainability course, we put together a visual deep dive of the impact of the industry and some of our favorite things the designers at Glo do to create garments that you can feel really good about.

Alt Text: It can look like: an emphasis on sustainable and ethical practices when designing garments, quality craftsmanship, experienced labor, and fair wages and working conditions during production, or a focus on investment and longevity when purchasing and consuming.
Alt Text: How some of our favorite designers prioritize sustainability: only create made-to-order, so no inventory is wasted, design garment patterns that create less waste, create garment linings from scraps (aka deadstock), source their fabrics from ethically-focused factories, use recycled and biodegradable shipping materials, and plant trees for every dress purchased
Alt Text: 6 ways to keep sustainability top of mind with your bridal choices: look for ethical, sustainably-minded designers and stores, work a family heirloom into your wedding look, buy locally or made in your country, find a green dress cleaner or preserver, consider selling or consigning your dress after your wedding, or work with a tailor to repurpose your dress into a wardrobe staple.
